1. Groupmappers Workshop: To form a Core Expert Group of GroupMappers and kick off the GroupMappers activities MORU organized a daylong technical workshop at Cadet College Club, Dhaka, Bangladesh – 15th October 2017

2. GroupMappers’s Mapping Communities Project – 1st Phase: Annotation of polygon and point location as community boundary and dispersed settlements from Google Earth in Southeast Bangladesh – 16th October 2017 – 15th February 2018.

3. GIS Day Contest 2017 Winners : We participated in global GIS Day contest organized by GIS Cloud and got the 2nd prize – 6th December 2017

4. Public Engagement Bursary from Welcome Trust: We awarded a bursury for achieving a goal to map settlements in Southeast Bangladesh (Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Cox’s Bazar).  – 7th March 2018

8. GIS & RS Club Café: A place to connect students and geospatial experts – encouraged young students to pitch their works, ideas, speech in front of renowned experts across the country and world.

 

Next step of GroupMappers’s Mapping Communities Project


>> Complete developing methodology for labelling or naming the extracted communities

>> The data will be made freely available online as it has a wide range of uses beyond health, relevant to most of the SDGs

>> To expand the same platform to map settlements and other features in other parts of Bangladesh and in other countries •

>> This work will form the foundation of efforts to expand the identification of communities to other areas using machine learning and computer image analysis methods on satellite data.
